The largest outbreak continued to be in Brockville’s Sherwood Park Manor, which reported 22 residents with the virus.

In all, five local long-term-care homes remained in outbreak, although the number of infected residents and staff was on the decline over the past week.

Along with the residents, more than 30 staff members are off work because of the virus, it reported.

Sherwood Park Manor also had the largest number of staff – 19 – out with the virus, followed by St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville that had 11 staff with COVID. The Lodge, though, had no residents with the virus, according to the Ontario figures.

In Lanark County, Fairview Manor in Almonte had five residents and fewer than five staff with COVID, Lanark Lodge in Perth had fewer than five staffers but no residents with the virus and Perth Community Care had five residents and only a few staff with COVID.

Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, cited a provincial decline in the number of long-term-care home residents with the virus as part of a general improvement in COVID-19 in Ontario.

On Thursday, there were 2,084 Ontario long-term-care residents with COVID, which was 129 fewer than the previous day.

The number of homes in outbreak dropped, too. There were 320, which was seven fewer.

Moore, commenting for the first time following this week’s gradual reopening, said the virus indicators are going in the right direction but he urged residents to remain cautious.

One of those indicators is hospitalization numbers. On Thursday, there were 2,797 people in hospital with COVID, down 142 from the previous day. The number of patients in intensive care units declined to 541, which was 14 fewer.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit didn’t post statistics on Thursday but Ontario Health reported there were 65 new high-risk COVID cases in the health unit.

They were among 4,098 new cases in Ontario. The province also reported 74 more deaths.
