Chainlink sponsors Code Cayman’s blockchain programme with $20,000 donation

Blockchain company Chainlink is sponsoring Code Cayman for the second consecutive year, this time with a $20,000 donation.

The special economic zone company, which has been in Cayman since 2017, said this second sponsorship grant to Code Cayman will help to promote blockchain technology and give back to the local community, by empowering young individuals who want to pursue a career in coding, including cryptography, through mentorships and coding courses.

Yaroslav Pshenitsyn, managing director of Chainlink in Cayman, said in a statement, “Chainlink is proud to sponsor Code Cayman’s Blockchain programme. The programme will provide an overview of the blockchain environment and highlight blockchain use globally.

“We are delighted to support Code Cayman in offering this highly desired course and are passionate about promoting blockchain education in the Cayman Islands.”

According to organisers, Code Cayman’s blockchain programme provides a basic understanding of the technology and how it works in real life. It also demystifies jargon and covers smart contracts, tokens and regulation, among other aspects.

“It is fantastic to have Chainlink come onboard as a repeat donor to Code Cayman. This is very important for us,” said Code Cayman’s programme mentor Tracey Walker.

Chainlink’s staff was also very hands on, she noted, getting involved as guest presenters in some Code Cayman’s course offerings.

Chainlink is a decentralised blockchain oracle network that is used to facilitate the transfer of tamper-proof data from off-chain sources to on-chain smart contracts via so-called oracles.

Oracles are data feeds from external systems that provide information, such as prices or weather information, to blockchains which smart contracts may need to execute.

Chainlink aims to expand the capabilities of smart contracts by enabling access to real-world data and off-chain computation while maintaining the security and reliability guarantees that are part of blockchain technology.
