Ed Team Collects Info From Pune Police On Crypto Fraud | Pune News

PUNE: A team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited the Pune police commissioner’s office last week and collected details related to the cryptocurrency fraud, in which former IPS officer Ravindra Patil and cyber expert Pankaj Ghode were arrested in March.
The Enforcement Directorate officials took details of the FIR registered against Patil and Ghode, besides taking an update on the police investigation so far.
The cyber police have seized cryptocurrencies worth Rs6 crore from the e-wallets of Patil. Any recoveries are yet to be made from Ghode. They are lodged in Yerawada jail under magisterial custody.
Deputy commissioner of police (cyber) Bhagyashri Navatake told TOI, “The Enforcement Directorate officials are in touch with the Pune city police and we shall share all the details of the case with them. On Monday, we questioned Ajay, the brother of prime suspect Amit Bharadawaj. But he did not cooperate with us.”
Patil was associated with a private foreign firm, involved in probing online frauds, after quitting from the police force. He was then roped in to help the city police in the investigations of the cryptocurrency fraud cases registered with Dattawadi and Nigdi police stations in 2018.
Navtake said, “The police have issued a notice under CrPC Section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) to the private company for further probe. Patil was working with the company at the time of the arrest.”
The city police accused Patil and Ghode of manipulating the screenshots of cryptocurrencies’ transactions from the e-wallets of Amit, the main suspect, and others to show fewer cryptocurrencies and moved large numbers of them to their own e-wallets.
