TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Trade Ministry is aiming to form an Indonesian cryptocurrency exchange, which was explained by Trade Deputy Minister Jerry Sambuaga in Jakarta on Monday. According to him, the exchange will share the same general concept as the Indonesian Stock Exchange or IDX.
“We will discuss the ownership later, but the point is that the concept of the exchange is the same if you look at the Indonesian stock exchange,” he said in Central Jakarta, on Monday, August 15.
The difference, Jerry added, is that crypto exchanges are for crypto commodities. But will have the involvement of business people as it is intended to provide certainty and convenience for consumers. “Also business people,” he added.
Similar to the stock exchange, his part will be about how these business people could join to simultaneously participate in growing the trading of crypto assets and commodities.
The Trade Ministry’s Futures Exchange Supervisory Board (Bappebti) still has to take careful steps upon launching the cryptocurrency exchange and consider a multitude of aspects, especially the requirements that must be followed in the formation of a crypto exchange. The two institutions collectively hope this idea will be realized before the end of the year.
