Internationally decorated British golfer Ian Poulter has entered into a partnership with Seychelles-based cryptocurrency platform OKX.
OKX will work with Poulter to reach golf fans with its web3 crypto-trading offering. The five-time Ryder Cup winner will debut his new ambassadorial role at The 150th Open Championship on Thursday 14th July. Known for his interesting golf attire, ‘The Postman’ will tee off wearing specially designed OKX-branded visor and trousers at the tournament.
Poulter has been one of the golfers at the centre of the controversy surrounding the sport of late, due to his involvement in the Saudi-back LIV Golf Series. Despite being considered as one of Europe’s most popular players in the past Poulter was jeered by spectators as he prepared to take his opening tee shot at the first hole at St.Andrews.
The PGA Tour has suspended members who have competed in the breakaway without permission, while the DP World Tour fined players £100,000 and banned them from last week’s Genesis Scottish Open but saw that temporarily stayed on appeal.
The R&A announced last month LIV players who were exempt for the Open would be allowed to compete at St Andrews, following the stance taken by the USGA in relation to the US Open.
OKX highlighted the current in issues in the sport and pointed out the parallels with its own industry, suggesting that “both golf and the financial markets are currently undergoing significant disruption, with traditional formats and methods being challenged by new entrants.”

OKX will be advising Poulter, a keen and ‘crypto curious’ investor, as he embraces web3 by launching unique NFTs and collaborating on plans for new golfing experiences within the metaverse.
