
The new payments system started from December 1., The nine cryptocurrencies that are being accepted for payment in Konzum supermarket are bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), bitcoin cash (BCH), EOS, DAI, XRP, XLM, and the stablecoins USDT and USDC.
Croatian payment processor Paycek, developed by local fintech company Electrocoin, will enable cryptocurrency payments on the retail’s online platform and payment will be done in the following steps :
- The integration with Konzum’s online store allows buyers to select a desired coin and complete the payment by scanning a generated QR code.
- After the transaction is finalized, customers will receive a confirmation email from the Paycek system and Konzum will send them an invoice.
- Paycek will ensure users a temporarily fixed exchange rate considering the highly volatile prices of cryptocurrencies.
One of the members of the Management Board of Konzum responsible for finance and IT, Uroš Kalinić, said that the addition of cryptocurrency payments shows that Konzum is aware of rapidly changing global trends, and intends to introduce innovations and set standards in the retail sector.
Kalinić expressed jubilation about leading in an area that is fastly reshaping the future. He also stressed about the supermarket’s decades-long past as a leader in terms of business results and technological achievements in Croatia.
In September, Paycek facilitated the payment in cryptocurrencies for Croatian e-bike company Greyp Bikes.
