Officials from the Timiskaming Health Unit have announced that all eligible residents of the district’s long term care homes have now received their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine as per provincial direction.

They add more third doses will be given to residents over the next few months as there is a five month minimum interval between the second and third dose for this population. To date, 272 third doses have been administered in the Timiskaming district.
Officials point out “in the general population, a complete COVID-19 vaccination series provides strong protection against COVID-19 infection and severe outcomes, including against the Delta variant.
“However, for some populations a third dose may be required to provide additional protection. Eligibility for third doses has expanded to include additional groups that face the highest risk of serious illness from the virus.”
Meantime the health unit is also reporting that 83.2 per cent of those eligible in the district have received their first vaccination dose while 76.9 per cent have received their second dose.
