‘Britain’s Pablo Escobar’ to be banned from WhatsApp and cryptocurrency when freed from jail

A DRUGS baron dubbed Britain’s Pablo Escobar will soon be freed from jail under some of the strictest measures ever imposed on a convict.

Curtis “Cocky” Warren, 59, will be banned from WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger and must give a day’s notice just to get in a pal’s car.

He will also be barred from holding cryptocurrency.

But an NCA source said keeping him away from home city Liverpool, once home to his drugs empire, was regarded “a possible human rights violation”.

He will be monitored by the National Crime Agency’s lifetime management team and failure to comply could see him back inside.

Likened to Colombian drug lord Escobar, Warren got 13 years in 2009 for plotting to sneak £1million worth of cannabis into Jersey and another ten for failing to comply with a £198million confiscation order.

The confiscation order is thought to have been the biggest of its kind in Europe.

The serious crime prevention order will kick in next month when he leaves max-security Whitemoor prison, Cambs.

Once described by Interpol as “Target One”, Warren will not be under supervision of the probation services because he has now served his full sentence, but will instead be monitored by the NCA.

He will have no curfew attached to his home address and he will be able to apply for a British passport.

He could travel abroad – but must provide details a week in advance with the names of people he is going with.

Warren is also only allowed one mobile phone, one SIM card and one telephone number. It must be made available on request to the NCA.
